Here are some basic safety rules for the installation, operation and maintenance of photovoltaic solar installations.

It does not replace the precautions and recommendations of manufacturers.

SECURITY RULESGeneral requirements for safety

  • The unauthorized persons, Children and animals must not have access to the facility, technical areas must be closed.
  • Read the instructions of the material (batteries, solar panels, etc.) you will use, make sure they are in good condition and that you have all the necessary equipment before starting.
  • When electrical work, and local stakeholders must be dry. Attention to the rain, to perspiration…
  • As much as possible, operations must take place off the power.
  • The power handling (that can create sparks) should not take place near flammable or explosive material. Remember that batteries can release hydrogen gas which is explosive !

Specific rules relating to the use of batteries and solar panels SECURITY RULE2

  • The polarity of the components
  • The only way to stop the production of electricity from a solar panel is to deprive them of sun. Cover panels before working on a photovoltaic system.
  • The batteries must be in a well ventilated room. To avoid any risk of explosion, it is forbidden to make fire, smoke or sparks in a room containing batteries.
  • Protect yourself against projections and fumes emitted by the batteries.
  • Never connect the poles + and – d'une batterie : that would short-circuit the risk of battery explosion. To prevent accidental contact of these two poles, remove all metal objects (ring, shows, bracelet…) when handling batteries
  • Do not charge batteries without regulator
  • Lead acid batteries are very harmful to the environment : do not throw !
